Steps for Creating an Ad

NOTICE:

For new members, we suggest printing this page and completely reviewing it prior to creating your advertisement on-line.

Be sure to use our Inventory Worksheet to help you easily gather the necessary information to create a well documented advertisement.

Do’s and Don’ts

  • All ads must comply with all applicable Membership Terms of Use.
  • Each advertisement must consist of only one commodity category.*
  • You may post an unlimited quantity of the same(Model/Part Number) item on one ad as long as the unit price for all quantities is the same *
  • You may post more than one of a Model or Part Number of the same commodity category on one ad under the following conditions:
    • You must sell all the posted items as “1 Lot”*
    • You describe the quantity, Model/Part Number, condition and any other appropriate description of each item in the ad*
    • You do not sell items separately*
  • Be accurate when describing the item(s) you want to sell
  • Respond quickly and thoroughly to any communications sent by a potential buyer
  • Once you have received payment from the Buyer, change your ad status to “Sold”. You can do this by selecting the Sold Ad link found on the My Ads page. This will help minimize the number of communications from other members regarding the sold item.
                *See Ad Posting Examples

When creating your ad, follow these steps:

STEP 1:   Inspect the item(s)

  • Note any flaws or damage – be thorough to avoid any potential conflicts with the buyer

STEP 2:  Take digital photographs

  • Although photos are not mandatory, they are helpful in providing a more complete description of your item  (see Photo Tips)

STEP 3:  Choose the commodity family your item falls under

  • Use the drop down menu – you may have to search through sub-categories

STEP 4:  Create an ad title

  • The title should include the name of the item and any keywords buyers might use to search for your item.
  • DO NOT use any keywords that are unrelated to your item.  That is called “keyword spamming” and it is strictly forbidden.  (see Keyword Spam Policy)

STEP 5:  Input item quantity and unit pricing

  • Input the total quantity of item(s) you are selling.
  • If you are selling several different items of the same commodity, make sure to select Lot in the unit of measure.
  • The pricing field represents the unit price of the item.  If you are selling by the Lot, the price represents the unit price of the entire Lot.  When selling by the Lot, be sure to list the individual quantity and description of each item that makes up the Lot in the description section.
  • Research the current market price for the item(s) you want to sell.  Check the website to see if there are any other advertisements selling similar items.
  • Be flexible. The lower your price, the greater the chance it will sell quickly.

STEP 6:  Select Item Condition -  This is a mandatory field

  • See Item Condition Descriptions for definitions of “New” and “Used”
  • Use the drop down menu to select the appropriate item(s) condition

STEP 7:  Select other item specific fields – Additional fields have been provided to help give more specific information on your products.  Some examples are:

  • Manufacturer  -  Optional field
  • Model Number -  Optional field
  • Part Number -  Optional field
  • Mileage -  Optional field

STEP 8:  Input the shipping weight and select who will pay the shipping cost

  • Select whether you want the Buyer or the Seller to pay for shipping the item(s).
  • Enter the unit shipping weight to help both parties estimate the shipping cost based on whatever method is used.

STEP 9:  Choose your preferred method of communicating with buyers

  • Internal email
Contractorhotdeals.com provides each member with their own internal email address accessible on the website only.  The benefit of using email to communicate with potential buyers is that each conversation will be documented.  If there is any issue with the sale of the item, your communications will be recorded for future reference.  * We reserve the right to periodically delete emails older than 120 days.
  • Phone
If you selected a preference to communicate with potential buyers by phone when you completed the initial Membership Registration process, your business phone number will automatically be displayed on all your ads.
  • Contact name
The person you designated as the Contact Name when you completed the initial Membership Registration will be automatically displayed on all your ads.

STEP 10:  Select accepted method of payment:

  • This is where you tell potential Buyers what method(s) of payment are acceptable to you.  This field defaults to the method(s) of payment you selected when you completed the initial Membership Registration.

STEP 11:  Create an item description – Always begin by thinking in terms of what potential buyers would want to know about the item(s). Make sure you provide a clear, complete and accurate description of the item(s) including some or all of the following:

  • The material the item is made of
  • Is the item still under warranty? If so, is it transferable to the buyer
  • Item’s dimensions
  • Item’s age
  • Item’s color
  • Any additional background information or history

STEP 12: Upload photos

  • You may have up to six photos per individual ad.
  • The first photo is free.
  • There is a fee for each additional photo depending on your membership level.
  • The first photo will show in the thumbnail ad listing only if you select the Thumbnail option shown in the Options section.
  • You can upload photos from a file on your personal computer using the browser or from a separate website using the URL option.

STEP 13: Select options

  • Select the Ad Options you feel will best attract the attention of potential buyers.
  • There is an additional fee for each option depending on your membership level.

STEP 14: Post Ad Review

Carefully review the ad information to make sure everything is correct.

  • Make sure you have included all the detail information buyers would need.
  • Review the Ad Fees.
  • Once you have submitted your ad, it will typically be posted to the website within a 24 hour period.
  • If your ad is rejected for any reason, you will be notified of the reason via email.
  • You may resubmit your ad once you have corrected the reason for the rejection.

PLEASE NOTE:
If needed, you have 24 hours to edit the ad after you have submitted it for approval.  Any change to the ad after 24 hours would require deletion of the current ad and posting a new one.  There may be an additional fee based on your membership level.
